Max Richter’s Eight-Hour Lullaby

Ever felt like you might drift off during a concert? Composer Max Richter’s new piece, ‘Sleep’, has that exact aim.

“It’s really an experiment to try and understand how we experience music in different states of consciousness,” says Richter.

Richter’s piece will premiere in Berlin this September with the performance taking place from midnight to 8 o’clock in the morning. The audience will be provided with beds to ensure ultimate comfort while the longest single piece of classical music takes place.

Let’s just hope Richter and the performers don’t drift off too…
