Methods and Practices

GOLDSTEIN is a music production company led by Jonathan Goldstein, a multiple award-winning composer with over 20 years’ experience at the top of the profession.

The majority of projects involve a close collaboration between the Creative Director, Jonathan, and composers who are drawn from the company’s growing freelance roster. The process involves continual supervision and revisions until the work is ready to be submitted under the GOLDSTEIN banner.

This ensures that clients who approach GOLDSTEIN for Jonathan’s creative direction, get the consistent result they expect. Jonathan manages the client relationship, much like a Creative Director at an advertising agency.

This curated concept is rare in the world of music production companies and to reflect this, the company adopts a co-writing policy with its composers.

This is not to be confused with some commissioning models with silent ‘co-writers’ or broadcast commissioning models that take publishing rights as a matter of course.

GOLDSTEIN is proud to have a happy and growing stable of accomplished composers who respond enthusiastically to briefs, often commenting on how much they enjoy the process as it provides the comfort of bouncing ideas, composer-to-composer, before work is submitted.

This collaborative process can make the difference between make and break on many occasions and provide composers with a wealth of professional opportunities in a highly competitive market.

In some respects, GOLDSTEIN is closer to a music production ‘academy’ than a music production house, with many composers gaining invaluable opportunities to flex their creative muscles on top-level gigs with expert personal guidance.

GOLDSTEIN actively promotes its growing catalogue of works and demos, ensuring that all material is promoted fully wherever possible.

The company also has a sister brand, DOLCE, that creates and curates music and sound design for fashion, culture, content and branding, offering further opportunities for both aspiring and established composers and artists.

Jonathan served as Chair of PCAM for over 5 years and has devoted much time to industry-related issues and events on behalf of organisations including BASCA, APA and the IPA. He has also sat on numerous awards panels including Ivor Novello Awards, Creativepool Awards, Creative Circle Awards, Music + Sound Awards and the Royal Television Society Awards.

GOLDSTEIN welcomes applications from composers who wish to be considered for future projects.
